Education Program

Education is the key to helping a community become an informed, effective force in solving the Watershed's problems.  A major goal of TEP's Education Program is to provide opportunities for students, residents, visitors and policy makers to understand the impact of their activities on the natural resources around them.  We accomplish this through a myriad of programs.  Some are designed to make people think; some are designed for participants to get their hands dirty or their feet wet; and some use fun activities to disguise the learning that is actually taking place.

Tillamook County Water Trail

WaterTrailSuperior recreational opportunities exist in our five watersheds, covering approximately 1,800 miles of navigable water for every skill level from novice to advanced whitewater. The Water Trail Committee selected TEP to manage the water trail project, acting as facilitator for the community-driven volunteer effort.

Down by the Riverside

The Down by the Riverside brings every county third grader, from all public and private schools, to a series of "hands -on" natural resources education activities.  Students rotate through sessions covering topics such as macro-invertebrates, water quality, riparian areas, invasive species and stewardship.  These sessions take place outdoors along rivers or sloughs to help students gain a sense of place about the environment they live in.  The Down by the Riverside compliments school curriculum as well as curriculum kits developed by TEP staff and its partners for use by teachers.  Now in its fifth year, the event has broad support from 40+ volunteers and over 15 partnering organizations.  The program is funded through a grant from SOLV and EPA 320 funds.
