SUMMARY:Invasive Species Removal at Clay Myers
DESCRIPTION:It’s beautiful\, but it’s damaging! Come out and protect native species by trimming back invasive scotch broom at Clay Myers Natural Area.\n\n\nScotch broom is an invasive species that outcompetes native plants by taking the water\, nutrients\, and sunlight they need to survive. This highly-flammable\, aggressive shrub reproduces by seed and requires consistent management. \nOn May 18th from 9am-12pm\, Tillamook Estuaries Partnership and Nestucca\, Neskowin & Sand Lakes Watershed Council are partnering with Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) to remove the abundant scotch broom that has taken up at Clay Myers Natural Area. A ranger from OPRD will support volunteers in learning how to effectively cut back the plant\, mitigating the chance for reproduction. \nFeel free to join for the whole event\, or part of it. There will be signage at the entrance of the trail so folks know where the group will be. \nTEP will bring loppers and a weed wrench\, but feel free to bring your own removal materials as you wish. Other things to bring/wear include: \n\ngloves if you would like them \nlong pants and long-sleeved shirt (layers if it is hot)\nhiking boots or sturdy close-toed shoes\nWater bottle (we will have a jug for you to refill)\nSunscreen\, hat\, etc. in case it is a sunny day!\n\nDirections \nYou will turn off on Whalen Island Road from Sandlake Rd. and veer right towards Clay Myers Natural Area. You will park in the lot and we will be meeting in the grassy area near the restrooms. We will walk out on the south-most trail\, as you can see in the attached image\, and walk about a quarter mile to the location where we will be removing scotch broom. \n***THERE IS NO CELL SERVICE AT CLAY MYERS*** Please be prepared for this. \nAccessibility \nThere are some photos of this location on the Explore Nature’s Know Before You Go Resource page and more photos will be added of the trail prior to the event. The terrain is uneven and fairly sandy. If you have any accessibility needs to attend this event\, please email danielle@tbnep.org. \nBathrooms \nThere are vault toilets next to the parking lot where we will be meeting.

SUMMARY:Whale Watching at Elk Flats
DESCRIPTION:To round-out Oregon’s whale watching week\, we’re gather at Elk Flats to check out these magical creatures as they migrate!\n\n\nNorth Coast Land Conservancy (NCLC) and Tillamook Estuaries Partnership (TEP) invite you to join us on Saturday\, March 29th from 9am-10:30am to get a glimpse at the Spring gray whale norhtbound migration! We will begin our hike at Elk Flats Trail\, off of Highway 101 and take the trail out to “Devil’s Cauldron” \n \nThe hike out and back is approximately 1 mile and there is an elevation gain of 300 feet. The trail is often bursting with plant life so wearing long-sleeve clothing and sturdy shoes is recommended. Pictures will be posted to the Explore Nature Know Before You Go resource page so you can properly prepare for the conditions of this trail. \n \nThe parking lot is an unassuming gravel lot just south of the Short Sand beach parking lots. We recommend arriving early to secure parking and if you are planning to meet people there\, to park in the southern Short Sand beach parking lot (where bathrooms are located) and carpooling to the Elk Flats trailhead. \n \nDuring this event\, we will be using scopes and binoculars to look for whales and the abundance of other life that exists in the waters and among the trees. NCLC and TEP staff will speak to our work in the region and the importance of whales for our climate and the marine ecosystems. We can’t wait for you to join us during Oregon’s Whale Watch week!

SUMMARY:STEAM Coach Volunteer Training: February 13th
DESCRIPTION:You don’t have to be an expert\, just someone who is passionate about helping students learn.\nSpring field trip season will be here soon\, and the Tillamook County STEAM Partnership is gearing up to host hundreds of students on several different field trip programs in Tillamook County. In order for these programs to be successful\, the TC STEAM Partnership relies on community volunteers to fill a variety of roles as STEAM Coaches\, who lead or assist with activities\, help behind the scenes\, and so much more. STEAM Coaches are people who believe all students should be able to learn about science\, technology\, engineering\, art\, and math (STEAM) subjects through educational experiences that are hands-on and inquiry-based. \nThis Volunteer STEAM Coach Training is for new and returning volunteers who want to support Tillamook County K-12 students at upcoming environmental education school programs. The focus of the hands-on activities for this training will include wave energy\, solar energy\, the water cycle\, and more. \n  \nDate: Thursday\, February 13\, 2025 \nTime: 9am – Noon (noon – 2pm optional hands-on activities) \nLocation: USCG Historic Boathouse (1209 Bay Lane\, Garibaldi\, Oregon) \nWhat: STEAM Coach Orientation presentation + hands on activity demonstrations  \nFREE Catered lunch social sponsored by @tillamookestuariespartnership \nRegistration required online at www.Netartsbaywebs.org/events \n  \nWe look forward to you joining us at this STEAM Coach Volunteer training to learn more about opportunities to volunteer with @netartsbaywebs @tillamookestuariespartnership @nwstudentsoutdoors and other TC STEAM Partners. For questions about this training or if you cannot attend and would like to learn about future opportunities\, please contact Rachel@NetartsBayWEBS.org. \n  \nWhat is the Tillamook County STEAM Partnership?\nAcross the county\, a partnership of 20 local organizations works together to provide various STEAM (science\, technology\, engineering\, art\, mathematics) programs to Tillamook County K-12 students. SUMMARY:Surplus Sale from our Native Plant Nursery
DESCRIPTION:Support our Native Plant Nursery.\nThis year we are teaming up with our friends at Aldervale Plant Nursery and offering two ways to purchase plants: \n\nOnline: get the first pick of our limited stock starting Friday\, March 22nd. Follow us on Instagram or Facebook or check back here for updates.\nIn person: come peruse our remaining inventory at the nursery in Tillamook on Saturday\, April 13th.\n\nThe plants at our facility are cultivated from seeds hand-harvested locally along Oregon’s North Coast.  This makes them uniquely adapted to thrive in our coastal ecosystems. Native plants play a critical role in restoring habitats to create cleaner water and better habitat for fish\, birds\, pollinators\, and people.  Check out our new website page for details. \nFor the last decade\, nursery staff and volunteers have used a temporary porta-john as their only bathroom. Funds from this sale will get us closer to building a hygienic\, sustainable\, universally accessible bathroom that is more accommodating of the many body types\, ability levels\, and genders that are welcome at the nursey. \nBrowse Inventory

SUMMARY:23rd Annual Children's Clean Water Festival
DESCRIPTION:Volunteer to support a Tillamook County tradition with another class of local 4th-grade students! \nYou are invited to the 23rd annual Children’s Clean Water Festival (CCWF) on Tuesday\, March 19th\, 2024 at Twin Rocks Friends Camp in Rockaway\, OR. Since 2001\, over 6\,000 students have participated in this annual event sponsored by TEP. This spring\, we hope you will join us for the fun Tillamook County tradition. \nLast year’s CCWF was a tree-mendous triumph! Students learned about king tides and Western Snowy Plover\, sculpted macroinvertebrates using modeling clay\, traveled through the water cycle as rain drops\, and more. When asked about their experience exploring a tidepool touch tank\, one student wrote\, “Today I learned that when sea cucumbers are scared\, they throw up their innards.” In total\, over 300 students\, teachers\, and chaperons from six different schools attended. To support all these students\, TEP recruited 83 volunteers for the 2023 CCWF. \nIn order to make this year’s festival an even bigger success\, we need volunteers just like you to fill a variety of roles. Whether you are keen to lead an activity\, or prefer to stay behind the scenes\, we have opportunities for you to help in a way that utilizes your skills and expertise. \nIf you are interested in volunteering\, please click here to fill out the CCWF 2024 Volunteer Application that is available on our website.
