SUMMARY:Leave it to Beavers
DESCRIPTION:Come explore beaver habitat and learn about the intersection of these ecosystem engineers and salmon health. It’ll be a dam good time.\n\n\nLeave it to beavers to manipulate their habitat in a manner that allows salmon and other species to flourish! On the evening of August 7th\, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Beaver Conservation Biologist\, Conrad Ely\, will lead an exploration around Alder Creek Farm to examine beaver habitat and speak to the importance of this species for ecosystem health in Oregon. \nDuring this event\, you will learn to identify beaver activity and their favored tree species\, as well as understanding how beavers contribute to the health and well-being of salmon and other species that rely on riparian areas. \nThis event is hosted by Lower Nehalem Community Trust\, Tillamook Estuaries Partnership\, and ODFW\, and will take place at LNCT’s Alder Creek Farm in Nehalem. \nDirections/Farm Parking: Traveling south from Manzanita\, turn right onto Underhill Ln and continue (please do not exceed 10mph) to the end of the lane. Following signage for the farm\, you will continue along a gravel path until you reach a house opposite a grassy field. Please park in the field. \nThings to bring: \n\nSturdy\, closed toed shoes as we will be walking on uneven terrain\nPants or something that covers your legs as we will be walking through brush and you want to be protected from the bugs and pokey plants!\nWater and sunscreen\n\nAccesibility Information: \nDuring the event\, we will be walking on uneven terrain and along the riverbank. SUMMARY:Restoring our Estuary - Seed bomb making and planting at Alder Creek Farm
DESCRIPTION:Help us restore the estuary by planting native plants!\n\n\nHelp us restore Alder Creek\, a tributary of the Nehalem river! Join Lower Nehalem Community Trust\, The Lower Nehalem Watershed Council and Tillamook Estuaries Partnership’s Native Plant Nursery on a plant restoration themed morning. We will have a seed ball building activity in the covered barn and will be planting native plants along the edges of the creek. Participants will get to take home their seed balls filled with seeds from the Native Plant Nursery. \n \nThere are so many benefits to planting native plants! They provide shade to maintain cooler stream temperatures for salmon\, stabilize stream banks to reduce erosion and flooding\, store and release water to lower flood risk and more! \n \nThis event is part of the Nehalem Estuary Month where we will be featuring events leading up to the MARCH 9th BIENNIAL NEHALEM BAY ESTUARY CLEANUP. \n \nThis Event will happen rain or shine. Please bring appropriate footwear for planting on muddy and uneven ground and be prepared for rain. Please bring water and snacks. There is a portable restroom available at the event location. Everything needed for planting will be provided including shovels and gloves. \n \nThis event is suitable for families and children ages 10 +. It will include less than one mile of hiking on moderately challenging terrain.
