4th generation Tillamook Farmer

Kurt Mizee first got involved with the Backyard Planting Program through the Tillamook County Creamery Association for fencing needs. The property has around 40 acres and on 3 sides of the fields there are streams or rivers. Fencing was completed around the fields, and Kurt was then interested in replanting around the edges of the fields in hopes of shading out invasive blackberries. Planting native species around the fence line was the best option to repopulate the field borders with native vegetation, provide shading, and outcompete invasive species.

In 2024, planting was complete on Kurt Mizee’s property, which includes Trask River frontage, Chance creek frontage, and a bit of Mill Creek frontage. 300 trees, 80 shrubs, and 400 cuttings were planted along 3,800 ft of riparian area, encompassing 2.6 acres.
