Tillamook Estuaries Partnership is excited to share our six-minute documentary film about the Backyard Planting Program (BYPP), which started over 20 years ago to improve salmon habitat and stream quality throughout Tillamook County. The Backyard Planting Program is a free voluntary assistance program for private landowners who own land along salmon bearing creeks or streams in Tillamook County. This program provides landowners with livestock fencing, invasive species removals, and native planting around riparian areas.
Bria Bleil, an Oregon Sea Grant Natural Resource Policy Fellow, directed, filmed, and edited this documentary as part of her fellowship to synthesize the environmental impacts and community perspective of this long-term restoration program. This work involved documenting the planting process, visiting older BYPP sites, interviewing landowners, analyzing 22 years of historical data, and synthesizing everything into a mini documentary.
